I guess this needs no introduction. More than half of the population going to beach in Chennai does not return home without eating this famous street food of Tamilnadu that is sold in the beaches along the east coast. This kara pori is healthy and filling when prepared hygienically. The vendor selling this has a huge mixing pot in the centre of his cart, around which the ingredients are kept ready in large bowls. He takes a little portion of each ingredient as fast as he could and puts them in the mixing pot. He mixes them vigorously for just a few seconds and then squeezes out the juice of a piece of lemon. The whole thing is mixed again and filled in paper cones or small plastic covers. You order one and you get it in your hands in less than a minute!

This tastes best when had immediately as it becomes soggy with time. I have seen people adding shredded cabbage in some stalls. What goes in is your choice and you can play around with the ingredients. This famous beach style kara pori can be made at home easily and hygienically. It doesn’t require much time and effort. Mix puffed rice, chopped onions, chopped tomato, chopped cucumber, chopped raw mango, boiled peanuts, grated carrot, chopped coriander leaves, salt, red chilli powder & lemon juice → Serve immediately.

1 cup : 240 ml


  • 2 cups Puffed Rice
  • 3 tbsp Chopped Onions
  • 1/4 cup Chopped Tomato
  • 2 tbsp Chopped Cucumber
  • 1 tbsp Chopped Raw Mango
  • A handful of Boiled Peanuts
  • 1 tbsp Grated Carrot
  • 1 tbsp Chopped Coriander Leaves
  • Juice of half Lemon
  • 1/2 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • Salt as required

How to make Marina Beach Kara Pori?

1. Take puffed rice in a bowl.
2. Add all the other ingredients.
3. Mix well and serve immediately.


  • Quantity of the ingredients may be adjusted to suit your taste.
  • Serve this immediately as it becomes soggy when kept for a long time after mixing.
